Big bend sentinel
The facade on the Highland Avenue building that has housed the Big Bend Sentinel for over forty years was in need of a face-lift. The original brick building housed a military goods store with a back warehouse that was later added by the Hord Motor Company. To clarify the disjointed, choppy exterior we pre-fabricated steel parapet walls in shop and installed on site, raising the front office parapet height to match the back warehouse and installed new metal roofing. The transom windows and the north alley window had been boarded up, so we reopened them and replaced all the windows and doors with low-e glass in black anodized aluminum frames. We replaced the wood and sheet metal awning with a prefabricated wrap-around steel awning hung from custom brackets. A few updates inside included a custom steel entry ramp, new HVAC, new drywall, refinished floors, and a simple neon sign.
